Iran Volleyballers Stand 1st in Islamic Solidarity Games

Iranian national volleyball team B has finished in the first place at the third edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Indonesia after it achieved a convincing victory over the Egyptian squad.

On Monday, Iranians ended their campaign with a well-earned win over the Egyptian outfit and overpowered their opponents 3-1 (28-30, 27-25, 25-20 and 25-16) at the Palembang Sport and Convention Center.

The Egyptian team started with strong spikes and defense, and closed the first set at 30-28.

The Iranians could establish themselves in the second set, and got the chance to close the gap. They took advantage of the Egyptians’ mistakes, had proper coordination and team unity, and managed to earn points. The Iranian team eventually finished the set at 27-25.

Iranian volleyball players did not stop at that and continued to exert a spell of pressure on their rivals. They won the third set 25-20.

The outcome of the second and third sets inspired the Iranian squad to play with more vigor in the last set. The Iranians managed to exhibit an almost spectacular performance, and finished the final set at 25-16.

In another match of the day, Turkey swept Indonesia 3-2 to claim the bronze medal.
