Jordan’s Taekwondo team secured gold, silver
and bronze medals on a fantastic day at the 3rd Islamic Games in
Indonesia.
Moutasembellah Abu Zaid beat the world No.
3 from Egypt on his way to gold, and Jordan’s first medal of the event, and
eventually beat a Saudi Arabian in the final, 6-0, in the 54kg weight.
His success inspired his team mates with Mohammad Khalifeh then taking silver after losing to a fighter from the host nation by just one point in the final of the 58kg event.
Bronze was later secured by Shahed
Altarman who fought well for her medal, and Jordan’s third to date.
The taekwondo team will continue its
pursuit for glory through Anas Al Adarbeh and Juilian Al Sadeq tomorrow.
The remaining woo shu player, Adham Azzam, was knocked out in the quarter finals
against an opponent from Turkmenistan.
Lana Al Jaghbeer, Jordan Olympic Committee Secretary
General, said: "These medals have really lifted the delegation who have done us
all proud by the way they have conducted themselves in Indonesia.”
