Contingent chairmen of the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) III complained about the condition of the rooms that will house athletes during the sporting event. The chairmen visited the competition venues and athlete's housing in Palembang, South Sumatra on Tuesday, August 20.
Some of them questioned the size of the rooms, which are 5.45 by 8.5 square meters. They think that a room that size is too small to house four athletes. Plus, each room only has one bathroom which they also consider as being too small, especially for athletes and officials from the Middle East.
The United Arab Emirates' deputy National Sports Committee, Ayesha Al Suwaidi, suggested that each room should only be occupied by two athletes, so that it would be more comfortable for them.
Augie Bunyamin, the athlete's village manager who is also the person in charge for accommodation in the ISG, said the committee will consider the UAE's suggestion to reduce the number of people in one room would. If it is approved, Augie said, the committee must find additional rooms for the athletes and officials.
South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin promised that in the next 10 days all preparations would be completed. "They didn’t believe it when we told them that we were only told to host the ISG III about two months ago."
The third Islamic Solidarity Games is scheduled to take place in Palembang from September 22 to October 1.
