South Sumatera Glitters in Global Eyes

Post the 26th South East Asian (SEA) Games on 2011, the name of South Sumatera–Palembang City in Particular–shines brighter than ever in the eyes of the international word. Establishing one international event after another, has made the “world’s eye” depict the region in awe.

Now on the upcoming September 2013, the “world’s eye” will be staring at Palembang City again. There are at least 57 member nations in the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), that will be sending out their representatives to Palembang, namely during the the establishment of the Third Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) Yaitu saat perhelatan Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) III-2013.

Indeed there will only be 26 nations participating in the Third ISG -2013, but the other member nations of OIC will still dispatch their officials to partake the event. At the very least we will have the presence of chairpeople from each country’s National Olympic Committee (NOC).

The situation is knowledgeable due to the status of ISG as a portentous agenda for the OIC. Especially considering that the last establishment of ISG, as well as the first, was on April 2005 (8th to 20th) in Saudi Arabia. While the second establishment of ISG which was supposed to be taking place on April 2010 (9th to 25th) in Iran, was not accomplished.

Therefore it is to be expected that officials from OIC countries will turn up in Palembang. The organizing chairman of ISG III – 20 13, Muddai Madang, said that his Organizing Committee has been informed and receiving confirmations from a number of Middle Eastern Countries on the arrival of their officials. Some of them shall be kings, presidents, prime ministers as well as emirs.

“Qatar had substantiated the arrival of their emir, along with the officials from United Arab Emirates who are indeed giving special attention for their contingents in ISG III – 2013”, claimed Madang.

In terms of sports, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani who runs office as the chairman of Qatar’s National Olympic Committee, is an illustrious figure in his home country. The gentleman is also a member of International Olympic Committee. The Sheikh who had higher education in Sherborne School, also chiefs Doha’s bid for the 2020 Olympics (Doha’s chairman of nomination as the host for the 2020 Olympics).

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani also owns Paris Saint-Germain FC which at the moment is counted as one the champions in Europe. The achiever of Grand Officer of the Legion of Honor in France on 2010, is ready to set Qatar as the host for 2014 FINA Swimming World Championships” and “2022 FIFA World Cup.

We also see the same generous attention given by United Arab Emirates (UAE) towards their contingents. Many of their governmental officials and royal families are actively involved in international sporting federations. Take Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan for example. The Deputy Prime Minister of UAE is also the owner of gigantic England League Club; Manchester City. The gentleman is also the brother of UAE’s President; Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Officials from other countries are also likely to step foot in Palembang. As the host, it is will indeed be the best interest for South Sumatera to provide the best service for these outstanding individuals. “Definitely we will provide specifically-designed security forces for the visitation of kings and emirs. It is for certain that we will coordinate with the Armed Forces and Police Departments” Madang explained.

The organizing committee of ISG III – 2013 will also coordinate with Angkasa Pura (Airport Administration), keeping in mind that the royals with their parties will be flying with [personal jets. “There is a possibility that we will temporarily re-open the old airport (Air Force base) for the private jets that they will not interfere with the schedules of commercial flights. And for all the related technicals, we will need to review this thoroughly with the Angkasa Pura”, said the owner of Jayakarta Daira Hotel.
