Iranian volleyball federation on Thursday
invited 16 players to the national team as part of team's preparation
plan for attending the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games.
Of the 16 players invited to Iran’s national volleyball team, 12 will be selected to attend the competitions.
The squad, however, does not include main players of the national volleyball team.
The 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games is scheduled to be held in Indonesia from September 24 to October 1, 2013.
Some 5000 Muslim athletes from member states of the Organization of
Islamic Cooperation (OIC) are expected to compete in the games.
Iranian sports officials had announced earlier that 90 Iranian athletes will take part in the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games.
The world ranking of Iranian Volleyball team has been upgraded to the
12th spot following the impressive performance of the squad in the FIVB
Volleyball World League.
The Iranian team received 68 points in the new rankings of
International Federation of Volleyball (FIVB), reported in July, moving
up two spots in the chart, after performing beyond expectations in its
first appearance in the world volleyball championship league.
