Blue Karate Team from Kuwait Win 3 Silver Medals

Kuwait’s Karate contingent to the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games returned home Friday after winning three silver medals in the Kata Category out of the total 7 medals hauled so far in the ongoing tournament.

Welcoming the athletes on arrival, Secretary General of Kuwait Karate Federation, Emad Behbehani praised the Blue Karate team comprising Mohammed Al-Qattan, Sayed Mohammed Musawi and Syed Salman al-Moussawi for the achievement and excellent level of performance put up at the 10- day ongoing tournament scheduled from September 22 to October 01 in Indonesia. The Kuwaiti team, considered the most powerful in the Middle East, lost to the home side in the championship finals.

The Secretary General also heaped praises on Misfer Al-Ajmi and Abdullah Shaaban, technical committee members in the contingent saying that everyone in the Karate delegation worked assiduously, as always, to provide the right climate for the positive result to be achieved in the Karate Championship tournaments both on the continental and international levels.

He added that the achievement belongs to the entire membership of the Kuwait Karate Federation led by its Board Chairman  Sheikh Khalid Al-Abdullah Al -Sabah who led efforts in the development of a new strategy for the national team six months ago which they applied at the international Karate championships in Greece and Turkey and won two gold medals.

He urged the technical committee of the national Karate team to continue to adhere strictly to the strategy up till the upcoming Karate world championship later in November in Spain which could see the strategy yet again lead to more medals. Behbehani also thanked the Kuwait Olympic Committee (KOC) for their part in putting together the technical team and the Karate team that represented the country so well in the tournament.

Earlier in the month, Kuwait’s Karate Martial Arts team returned home with two gold and two bronze medals after participating in the 8th International Istanbul Open Karate Tournament held in Istanbul, Turkey.

The Kuwaiti Karate delegation returned to the country after participating in the Karate 1 individual and youth tournament. The team finished fourth overall behind Iran in first place, Germany second and Turkey third among the 37 countries who participated in the 2- day Karate-1 Premier League Grand Finals tournament in Istanbul, September 7-8, 2013 staged at Istanbul’s Atakoy Asli Cakir Alptekin sports hall under the aegis of the Turkish Karate Federation.
