Iraq secured their first gold from the male 56 kg weightlifting class
on the second day of the Third Islamic Solidarity Games – 2013 in
Palembang, South Sumatera.
The contribution was coming from Ali Albachi; Iraqi lifter who
competed in the 56 kg class held in Jakabaring Multifunction Hall (Graha
Serbaguna Jakabaring) on Tuesday in Palembang. Albachi gained gold by
242 kg of total weightlift; comprising 105 kg snatch for each lift and
137 kg for clean and jerk.
The 1994-born lifter was ahead of Saudi Arabian lifter; Al Saleem
Mansour Abdulrahim, who made a total lift of 241 kg comprising 100
snatch and 131 kg for clean and jerk. While Indonesian lifter M. Purkon
had to be satisfied with the acquirement of bronze by lifting 107 snatch
and 130 kg clean and jerk; allotting to a total of 237 kg.
Competing athletes on 56 kg class comprised two figures from Saudi
Arabia and one each from Indonesia, Malaysia, Tunisia, Iraq, and
Algeria.
On the previous day Indonesia scored two golds and one silver from
female weightlifting, namely from the 48 kg (Sri Wahyuni Agustiani) and
53 kg (Citra Febrianti) classes. While the silver achiever for female’s
weightlifting group is Syarah Anggraini who competed in the 53 kg class.
Until the moment Indonesia still leads medal scoring on weightlifting
by gains of two golds, one silver and one bronze, a level ahead of Iraq
who managed to secure one gold, followed by Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia
with one silver each, and Egypt, Malaysia with one bronze each.
Manager of Indonesian Weightlifting Team; Dirja Wiharja, said that gold
is not being targeted in the male 56 kg class, considering that
competition is tough, especially from Iraq.
“Our target on the first day of weightlifting was only to achieve two
golds and a silver,” he added. Giving additional note, Wiharja said
that Indonesia realistically targeted only for three or four golds from
weightlifting, seeing that lifters from other nations are excellent
rivals, namely from Egypt, Iraq, Turkey, and Azerbaijan, particularly
above the 85 kg class.
“Indonesia is absent from deploying in the above 85 kg class.” Wiharja concludes.
