Karate athlete Abdelkrim Bouamria (-60kg) offered to Algeria its first gold medal Tuesday in Palembang (Indonesia) in the Kumite competition (individual) of the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG/September 22 -October 1, 2013).
Bouamria, recently sacred world champion in "Shitoriu Style ", dominated in the final Iranian Hamdound Bour defending world champion in 2012, with a score of (11-5).
In the category of - 67 kg, Algerian Mohamed Boudis was eliminated by the Moroccan Redouane Kesksou (7-3) who took the bronze medal.
"I am pleased that this victory came at the right time. I expected to win as my world title in Tokyo recently won motivated me to move forward," Bouamria told APS following the fight.
For his part, coach Rabah Benameur, showed his satisfaction for the first Algerian medal at this event. "I thank our champion Bouamria for this brilliant victory over a very tough opponent and also in the presence of the best karate athletes from Iran, Egypt and Morocco," he said.
For its part, Abdelhafid Izem, member of the Algerian Olympic Committee, said that Bouamria "unlocked Algerian medals counter. This will motivate other athletes to win medals in turn
