The branch of karate today gave bronze medal to Indonesia the host of
the Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG). The medal was retrieved by Yulianti
Safrudin from women individual kata.
Played in Sriwijaya Promotion Center, Monday (23/9), Indonesia was deriving two athletes in men and women kata individual.
Yuli finished in the third place after defeating Assila Salma from
Morocco in the last matched with a score 3-2. Meanwhile, Faizal
Zainuddin did not get any medals after defeated by karateka from Egypt,
Ibrahim Magdy Moussa with a score 1-4.
“Anyway, i should be able to bring medals for Indonesia. Finally i
can do that, despite i lost to Turkey before. The point that i tried to
play calm,” Yuli said after the match.
“It looks like my performance has decreased. Because on Women’s
Islamic Games in Iran i got gold medal. But it’s fine, i will make this
result today as the evaluation in the future, how i have to exercise
harder than before,” she continued.
As most of the branches, the karateka also make the ISG as trials
before facing SEA Games 2013. Karate so far is a branch that has
tradition to give gold medals to Indonesia especially in Southeast Asia.
Tomorrow on Tuesday (24/9) Indonesia karateka will be back to compete in men and women kumite and kata numbers. (Adr)
